An IT Geek's journey towards the Private Pilot Licence
About
The Flying Geek is a part-time Business Analyst at a large Australian university and is studying towards the final semester of his IT degree. He first experienced the joy of flight in his high school days, where he was given the opportunity to learn how to fly gliders. After a week’s intensive course at Sportavia in Tocumwal, NSW which involved 30 flights, 3 of which were solo flights, he truly got a taste of the joy that is flight. However, since then due to various circumstances, he was unable to continue training in gliders.
Three years later, the thirst for flight finally overcame him and he decided to convert over to powered flight at Tristar Aviation at Moorabbin, VIC – much closer to home. And, this is where this blog starts.
So why start a blog, do you ask? After reading a number of blogs about other people’s journeys toward their PPLs, I was able to gain clarity about what was truly involved in the process – and the joys that have come out of it. In a way, this is my contribution to other people who may be contemplating doing their PPLs or are already working towards them. Also, I feel that this is a nice exercise of reflective learning; a place where I can summarise what I have learnt practically or theoretically throughout my journey.
I hope you enjoy reading about my journey.
